Welcome to Brazoria Historical Museum, in the heart of the municipality of Brazoria. Stephen F. Austin brought the first 300 anglo settlers here, to colonize what was then Mexico. This became the seat of farming, shipping, and ranching in the colony, and when the Mexican government began putting too many taxes and restrictions on us, it became the seat of discontent and revolution.

Our museum depicts the history of our area from the 1800's to the present by highlighting a different time period in each room. We focus on Karankawa Indians, Austin Colony, Masonry, plantations and ranches, the Civil War, early businesses and important people, Military memorabilia, vintage grocery store merchandise, American coins and bills, marvelous old home items and early school room artifacts. We have the only African American room in Brazoria County. The environmental room is a hit with children, who love all the animals. Our ever-changing fiber arts collection is a favorite with crafters and collectors, alike.

Our museum is open for self touring Mon-Fri. 9AM to 4PM during the Chamber of Commerce hours, and it is manned by docents Wed. 10AM - 3PM and Saturday 11 AM til 3PM.
